Chaos at Howe Community Park Results in 4 Shot in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Law enforcement in Sacramento are probing a violent incident that erupted on April 18 2026 at Howe Park as deputies were clearing an unsanctioned gathering of hundreds of attendees.

How It Started

Law enforcement first arrived at the park at about 6:30 in the evening after learning of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Not long after, a second caller reported concerning an alleged brawl taking click here place near the park.

A sheriff's airship conducted an aerial sweep but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. However, it became clear that a crowd of several hundred had congregated at Howe Park without authorization.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Officers set about removing people from the park by encircling the gathering and broadcasting over loudspeakers commanding attendees to disperse at once. Approximately 15 minutes were spent for people to comply.

Just as the crowd began to move that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition echoed through the night. The rapid succession of shots sent hundreds fleeing. Deputies at once began finding those who had been shot.

Those Who Were Hit

When the dust settled, four gunshot victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. All four — a group of one female and three male victims ranging in age through their in their early to late twenties — were transported to nearby hospitals. Hospital staff confirmed that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one had moderate injuries, and one victim's wounds were minor. According to authorities, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.

Sacramento fire crews assisted at the location and helped triage the four victims before they were taken to the hospital.

What Investigators Found

The bulk of the shooting seemed to have happened near the Cottage Way side of the park near the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Detectives recovered additional shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were also found in the iron perimeter fence bordering the Home Depot store. These findings showed that a shooter had been firing southward from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. That Home Depot location was locked down while the scene was active. CSI investigators and detectives continued working through the early morning hours.

Detainees in Solano County

Reports confirmed through scanner monitoring revealed that a Kia was intercepted in nearby Solano County. Four people were taken into custody. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were sent to retrieve the detainees to bring the suspects back for processing in Sacramento County. Video evidence established that there were two gunmen.
